Here’s some news: we’ve launched our first pro bono project. You may remember last year when we announced the creation of Web for Good, a nonprofit foundation that would allow us to offer our services for free to the winning applicants.
Well, our first client’s project is finished, and launched. Here’s what you need to know about the new website for A Child’s Haven.
It’s Easy on the Eyes
Once we began meeting with A Child’s Haven, our new client, we quickly realized that their website needed to look and feel more like them. After we visited their facilities, and saw their team at work, we caught a glimpse of where we could go.
The new website shows off the mission of A Child’s Haven prominently, but not just with words. We believed it was just as important that a website user could feel the mission, and see it. So we began each page with an eye-catching image, splashed with watercolor around the edges, and focused on a worker helping a child, or a child discovering something new. Our menu is the color of crayons, and the layout is structured, a little like blocks or play stations.
A big part of the site’s simplicity was also the work that went into its information architecture. We wanted it to feel simple to find what you were looking for on the site, whether you were coming to donate, volunteer, or just learn more about A Child’s Haven.

It’s Helpful
We like good design, and even good structure. But we know a website is only as valuable as it is helpful to the people who use it. That’s why we included some classy custom elements on the site that were designed precisely for that reason.
Many people don’t understand quite what A Child’s Haven does, so we created a virtual tour that shows the full range of their work in one interactive space.
Some people would like to donate, so we’ve made it easier with a custom donation module that allows donors to specify what they want to give toward.
Our Events showcase puts the spotlight on the next upcoming event, and shares as much information as any given user is interested in.
And since a big capital campaign is important to A Child’s Haven, we dedicated an interactive page just for that, and also designed an infographic that showed their new facility lighting up with color as donations come in, in real time.

It’s Our Pleasure
The Worthwhile team loved getting to know A Child’s Haven and their wonderful team. It was easy for us to work on a project that we knew would help such a good cause, and that we had all helped to choose in the first place.
The staff from A Child’s Haven made it easy for us, and they even were so kind as to throw us a little party once the site was launched, complete with balloons, cake, songs from the children and a handmade thank-you plaque.
Here’s where you come in. Check out our new site at www.achildshaven.org — then swing back here and let us know what you think. And keep in mind that applications are always open for our next Web for Good project (at www.webforgood.org). We’ll choose our next client by the end of spring.
